I believe he was most likely a son of William Henry Applegate, and a brother of Dr. William Lorette Applegate. The note also says taken about 1860 1861, though the stamp on the back dates it to 1864 1866 and if you look carefully you will see that this is a period copy CDV of a tintype, so the
